Hexagon Socket Set Screw with Dog Point
Technical guide to hexagon socket set screws with dog points, used for positioning, fastening and load transmission in precision mechanical assemblies.
What Is an ISO 4028 / DIN 915 Set Screw?
The dog point set screw is a headless fastening component designed to fit inside a threaded hole and engage with a shaft, machined surface or moving component. Its main characteristic is the cylindrical dog point, which facilitates accurate positioning and improves load transmission in certain mechanical connections.
This type of screw is widely used in mechanical assemblies, transmission systems, shafts, bushings, pulleys, hubs and components requiring secure, compact and precise fastening.
Main Features
Functional Geometry
The dog point provides improved screw positioning and engagement within specially designed recesses or prepared surfaces.
Flush Installation
As a headless screw, it can be recessed into the component, reducing interference and improving the overall assembly finish.
Internal Drive
The hexagon socket allows tightening in confined spaces and enables fast, precise installation.
Precision Fastening
Commonly used in mechanisms requiring components to be secured or positioned under moderate or repeated mechanical loads.
Advantages of Dog Point Set Screws
- Provides compact fastening without protruding beyond the component surface.
- Facilitates accurate positioning on shafts, hubs and machined components.
- Offers effective load transmission in specifically designed mechanical assemblies.
- Helps minimise unwanted movement between connected components.
- Commonly used in industrial machinery and mechanical maintenance applications.
Dimensions, Materials and Finishes
Set screws manufactured according to ISO 4028 / DIN 915 are available in different materials and dimensions, depending on service conditions, mechanical loads and corrosion resistance requirements.

Common Industrial Applications
Differences Between Set Screw Types
DIN 913 / ISO 4026
Flat point. Recommended when uniform contact is required without significant penetration into the mating surface.
DIN 914 / ISO 4027
Cone point. Suitable for applications requiring greater penetration and concentrated fastening.
DIN 915 / ISO 4028
Dog point. Particularly useful for positioning and controlled fastening within specially designed recesses.
DIN 916 / ISO 4029
Cup point. Widely used when strong engagement with the mating surface is required.
