ISO 4017 Hex Bolt Fully Threaded
Hex bolt with continuous thread along its full length, designed for industrial fastening, metal supports, machinery assemblies, modular systems and applications where uniform thread engagement is required.
A hexagonal fastener with thread along its full length
The ISO 4017 bolt is a standardized solution for industrial joints where the thread must work along the entire body of the bolt. Unlike a partially threaded bolt, it does not include a smooth shank.
This geometry allows the nut to be positioned at different points along the shaft, improves adjustment on variable thicknesses and provides a highly versatile fastening solution for metal assemblies, machinery and industrial maintenance.
Continuous thread
Provides engagement along the full length of the bolt and greater adjustment freedom.
Hex head
Enables tightening with standard wrenches during assembly, maintenance and repair.
Flexible assembly
Suitable for parts with variable thicknesses or adjustable joints.
Industrial use
Widely used in machinery, structures, supports, auxiliary anchors and modular systems.
Main characteristics of ISO 4017
The ISO 4017 standard identifies a fully threaded hex bolt for applications where thread engagement, compatibility and dimensional repeatability are essential factors.
Full thread for adjustable joints
The main difference of ISO 4017 is that the thread occupies the full usable length of the bolt. This allows the nut position to be adapted, improves tightening adjustment and solves assemblies where relying on an intermediate smooth shank is not desirable.
The fastening can work at any point along the shaft.
Useful in joints with variable thicknesses or adjustable components.
Works together with standardized nuts and flat washers.
Designed for fastenings with continuous engagement and complete adjustment.

Common materials, grades and finishes
Technical materials
- Carbon steel 8.8 · general industrial use
- Carbon steel 10.9 · higher mechanical strength
- Steel 12.9 · high-demand applications
- A2 / A4 stainless steel · humidity, outdoor use or corrosion
Finishes and protection
- Zinc plated · standard surface protection
- Galvanized · greater protection for outdoor environments
- Black oxide · dark technical finish
- Special coatings · according to drawing or project requirement
Material selection should consider load, corrosion, temperature, tightening torque, working environment, maintenance and documentation requirements.
Common industrial applications
ISO 4017 compared with other hex bolts
The choice between a fully threaded bolt and a partially threaded bolt depends on the type of joint, grip length, part thickness and required mechanical behavior.
Fully threaded
- Thread along the full length
- Greater adjustment freedom
- Ideal for variable thicknesses
- Frequently used in supports and modular systems
Partially threaded
- Includes smooth shank under the head
- Greater bearing support in structural joints
- Useful when a smooth shank is required
- Less flexible for adjustment with a nut
Technical selection
- Depends on the customer drawing
- Requires confirmation of material and class
- Surface finish must be reviewed
- Tolerances and traceability should be verified
Versatility, adjustment and industrial compatibility
Uniform engagement
The full thread allows threaded contact along the shaft.
Flexible adjustment
The nut can be positioned according to the actual assembly thickness.
Standard assembly
The hex head makes it easy to use common tools.
Wide industrial use
Works in machinery, supports, repairs and metal structures.
